Paper, film & nonwovens

How do you wrap a paper reel on all six sides automatically?

In short

A reel cannot go on a turntable — the ends stay exposed. The SW-2000D places the reel on driven rollers, turns it while the turntable rotates, and spirals film around the full circumference, covering all six sides. A pneumatic ejector discharges the finished reel so the cycle never stops for manual unloading.

Hand-wrapping a 1 500 kg jumbo reel takes two people, several minutes and a variable amount of film. The ends — the part most exposed to moisture in transit — are usually the worst covered.

Reels also mark easily. Anything that grips or drags the surface leaves a defect that shows up in the customer's press room rather than on your dock.

How iPack solves it

Two axes of rotation

Driven rollers turn the reel while the turntable rotates, so the film carriage reaches the ends as well as the body. Six-side coverage from one automatic cycle.

Rollers that do not mark

Coated, low-friction rollers and low film tension protect printed, coated and sensitive stock.

Automatic discharge

A pneumatic top-eject mechanism pushes the finished reel clear, with a 90° or 180° discharge angle to suit the material flow you already have.

Siemens control, programmable

Siemens PLC, HMI and VFDs with stored wrap counts, so a change of reel diameter is a recipe change rather than a setup.

Reels & rolls — common questions

What diameter and weight of reel can the SW-2000D handle?

+

Reels from φ800 mm to φ1 600 mm diameter, 800 mm to 2 050 mm wide, weighing 100–1 500 kg. The turntable is φ2 400 mm and the roller working length is 2 050 mm.

Does it mark the reel surface?

+

The driven rollers run a low-friction coating and film tension is set for the stock. Printed and coated reels are wrapped at lower tension than unprinted kraft.

Can long profiles be wrapped too?

+

That is a different machine — the SW-3000D horizontal ring wrapper passes product through a rotating ring instead of turning it, which suits extrusions, boards and pipes of any length rather than cylindrical reels.

How many reels per hour?

+

Throughput depends on the wrap count per reel; a typical six-side protection cycle at moderate wrap counts runs 20–30 reels per hour with one operator supervising several machines.
